2 of these dresses are our great granddaughter. The other four will go somewhere in the world to little needy girls. It is fun to make these cute things for such a purpose. I try to imagine how cute they will be and happy to have such a nice little dress. so glad that I could contribute a little to someone's happiness.

Preemie Twins

It has been a privilege of mine to hold a couple of darling preemie twins each day that there mother can't make it
the 2 1/2 hour drive to the hospital so that translates to about 4 or five days a week when I and my granddaughter (21) can go and hold them for one to two hours. They were only 8 inches long when they were born and weighed 1.5 lbs. It has been about 3 1/2 months and they are now about 4 lbs 10 oz and 3lb. 11 oz. Yesterday was their first time out of the isolete. It is pretty amazing how much better they do when they are being held regularly. We just hope and pray that they will continue to progress so they can go home as healthy normal babies before too long.

Hats off the a wonderful loving family who are so willing to adopt these babies from the beginning in spite of all the unknowns.

I have been busy making little girl's dresses for orphanges in Ethiopia and humanitarian services. It has been a very rewarding experience. Friends have also donated a lot of fabric so I will be able to do it for quite a while. I plan to keep doing it for a very long time. I will keep adding to the fabric stash. There is something about helping those who cannot help themselves.

Ann is just the most loving and cheerful person no matter what else i s going on. Her mom, Agnes was baptized on Saturday by our ward Mission President Smith and confirmed by Elder Matson on Easter Sunday. Ann wanted to make sure that she would not miss giving us a farewell dinner because she will be starting a second job again soon so she hosted a wonderful dinner for us this Monday Evening and invited the guests you see in the picture. she is so delightful and loving.

Tuesday was Sister Werb's last day as a Employment Service Missionary. She has a passion for helping the downtroden and compassion for them and can feel their pain. She has made countless phone calls and advised people and been our luncheon expert as she has prepared over 40 lunches for the attendees of the Career Workshops. She has tuaght us all so much. After closing yesterday we had a little gathering and presented her with this beautiful little mirror with birds. She loves the birds and animals and has a special connection with them.

We will miss her in the Employment Center but she is still our star student in the music keyboarding class. She practices 2 hours a day and has made amazing rapid progress. You would never guess that she is 78 years old and still very energetic and busy creating and selling her greeting cards that are masterpieces.

We wish her well in her coming new callings.

Our group of Employment Missionaries dwindled this time because of some serious problems for our missing friends. Nevertheless, we had a great conference with terrific people. We hope life gets better for the other three couples who are missing.

Flower Mystery

Tuesday this week I received 25 roses. the card said "Happy Birthday from some people far away" It was four days early and I couldn't guess who they were from. Probably one of our children. Wednesday, I received 25 tulips. the card said "An even happier birthday form some people far away who miss you and love you very much". Thursday I received another bouquet! this time 20 Iris! The card said "Here are 70 flowers for your 70th birthday. Happy birthday, You deserve it! Love" and it was signed by each of our 6 children! What a fun adventure that was as it took place in our employment office for everyone to enjoy the mystery and the flowers. They are now going in the big cooler at the Bishop's storehouse at night to make them last longer. What a wonderful idea and great family. I am so grateful for each of them. Many other wishes and gifts and cards have come for which I am ever thankful.

This tree is on the campus ot USM on the gulf coast. It survived Katrina. It is over 500 years old. It is an awesome experience to be underneath it's branches. Quite symbolic. Many proposals and weddings have taken place there.

Deep Fat Fried Pickles! Delicious

Only in the South!!! Who would have thought but I had to try them and they are delicious. You dip them in Ranch dressing too.
FRIED DILL PICKLES

1 egg, beaten

1 c. milk

1 tbsp. flour

1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce

6 drops hot sauce ( I did not use this)

3/4 tsp. salt

3/4 tsp. pepper

3 1/2 c. flour

1 qt. sliced dill pickles

Wesson oil for deep frying

Combine first 5 ingredients, stirring well. Set aside. Combine 3 1/2 cups flour, salt and pepper, stirring well. Dip pickles in milk mixture and dredge in flour mixture, repeat process. Deep fry in hot oil, 350 degrees until pickles float to surface and are golden brown. Drain on paper towels.

This was a very interesting group. Four spoke Spanish and four spoke English. Out of that one spoke only Spanish and one spoke only English. It worked out just fine and they networked together just fabulously. Another great combination.

Sister Dustin and Elder and Sister Earnhart will be leaving us soon but we just can't let them leave without some more parties in their honor. They deserve the best!

New Bell Riger/ Old Friend

The Candy Man Can ! Candy Man Cohan. (Hey, that rhymes too.) This national sales candy man has been out of his profession for 15 long months. He finally found a candy sales job as a salesman for a company in Utah! He will be over sales in 6 southern states. He is thrilled. So are we. He says it is a miracle. Sales jobs are hard to find but after prayerfully searching and talking to everyone he could about job leads he was referred to this company by an acquaintance. He is so grateful and kind to come back and ring the bell and even brought gifts to Sister Dustin who has been a fabulous mentor for him. That is how it works. He who persists, gets the job and rings the big, loud resounding bell to joyously celebrate with us and we give them a token "Pay Day"... Candy Bar! Everyone in the office at the time comes to our "Hall of Fame" where the happy but loud little party takes place. They who teach, train, support and encourage get a lot of joy from the success too. It made our day and then some. His picture will go on the wall in the "Hall of Fame" with the others you see in the picture. We will never forget the classy sincere salesman Steve.

We visited the battlefield of the Battle of New Orleans in 1815. It ended the war of 1812. they do a reenactment of it on January 8th, the anniversary of it but we were unable to go that day. That anniversary day history comes to life. Over 100 living history experts dressed as 1815 troops and civilians set up camp at the site of the Battle of new Orleans. Cannons roar, campfires crackle, and American history changes forever on a Louisiana sugarcane field. We did see movies of the reenactment there in the visitors center. It is part of the National Park service. .

It was very interesting to visit there. There are over 15000 graves here of military and families. Four from the war of 1812 and a lot from the civil war and up to WW I. Very interesting and informative. There were such huge sacrifices here.

It is 30 miles from our apartments.

New Orleans is only 30 miles from us in Slidell. four of our missionaries had never been there so we did the buggy ride around the town and shopped at the French Market and saw the River Walk. It was a great release on a holiday that we had off from our regular office and welfare work.

These five wonderful and interesting people took our Career workshop in December. There is a lot of variety here. That is what we find in every group and it is amazing how well they all work together. They are always a team cheering each other on. the workshop is a blast yet very valuable to those who take it.Among other things, the workshop prepares them to evaluate themselves, find a job, interview and write a resume. It is very motivational

Pay Day

A person like Elizabeth who has gone through countless trials, when sometimes things just seem insurmountable, can still smile in the face of adversity and keep a courageous smile even when she suffers but can speak out when she needs to, who trusts the Lord so much and trusts us too, for a better future. Who's road is so long and tough, yet she can turn her back on the past and overcome what has been for what can become, is a champion in the making. She deserves a break, a happy day like today . After fighting health and other problems for a very long time, she is now able to work and was blessed with a job quickly. We are so very grateful for this blessing to brighten a difficult path to the better life. She is firmly planted on that path. She will make it. She is an example of courage, faith, dependability, fortitude and strength. We are learning so much from her cheerfulness, grace, humility and gratitude.

Above is a picture of all the Senior Missionaries in Slidell. Four are in the Bishop's storehouse and drypack cannery as the Wilsons have just arrived and the Earnharts are training them. Five of us are in the employment center. One tenth of all the missionaries in the Jackson Mississippi Mission are in Slidell and we are the reason. We also have five young proselyting missionaries. What a blessing!

This picture is of the five employment missionaries with our Managers. We found that with all of the pictures I have taken that we have not had one of just us except at Birthday celebrations at a table.

Piano Keyboarding Class

Through a generous donation of the Harmon foundation, we are able to recieve keyboards and books at no cost to us as missionaries. They keyboards are now property of the Slidell ward and Sister Goodin, Dustin and I are teaching it. It also includes some music directing. Today was our first class. We had 10 people come for it and we only have 8 keyboards at present but it worked out fine. It is a great experience and they are all committed to learn and very happy and grateful to the foundation who made it all possible. Our goal is to have them playing simplified hymns by the end of May. Time will tell but all but one of them has had some previous musical experience.

New Year's Eve Baptism

Elder Bishop baptized Bertina and Roberto Lord in a wonderful, spirit-filled meeting. They are both from Panama and brother Lord is blind and hard of hearing and in poor health. He is 85 and she is 79 years old. Now he knows that death is not the end. They were confirmed by Elder Bishop in sacrament meeting on Jan. 2, 2011. It is wonderful to see the gospel touch the lives of these two fine people.

Caroling was so much fun on Christmas Eve. for all of us Senior Missionaries. It is a rarity here as near as we can tell by the response. One lady said that she had never had carolers in her life and her five year old daughter was so excited that she couldn't stop talking about it. Several sang with us. One fellow shook all our hands. One little boy clapped his hands with the singing and was total smiles from head to toe. One came out and took videos of us singing, Two came out and hugged us all. One invited us to come and visit her and offered us cookies. One (our neighbor, Scott) left a note on our door and thanked us and told us that all of his family are 1000 miles away and it made his day and because of the bread we gave him, he didn't have to make a trip to the store on Christmas Eve or day. They all loved getting a loaf of homemade bread. We only went to one family we know (Ann) and the rest are our neighbors in the apartment complex but we did not know their names. They know who we are from our tags. I think we have brought some joy and made some friends by doing this.

Zone Conference in Gulfport. Here is a game that is fun for a group. Guests sit in a circle. The plastic tub was filled with gifts the guests brought which were wrapped in newspaper. You had to roll two dice and if you got doubles you went to the center, put on big work gloves and tried to open a present before the next person tapped you. There were two sets of die so you tap the person who has been the longest and they have to leave and give you the gloves. Fast and fun and so messy and funny. All kinds of gifts from a toilet seat to candy and hand sanitizer. All $5.00 or under.
