He cometh -1 Nephi 19:8

1 Nephi 19:8

He Cometh

What
8 And behold he cometh, according to the words of the angel, in six hundred years from the time my father left Jerusalem.

Nephi was predicting the birth of Jesus Christ upon the earth. He had received a revelation of it.

Why
Sometimes the Lord may give us a time line for the future if we desire and need it. The timing of Jesus Christ's birth was very important. It was the greatest event to ever take place since Adam and Eve came to the earth.

Pattern

Isa. 7:14
14  Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a signBehold, a virginshall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Isa. 9:6
6  For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and thegovernment shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlastingFather, The Prince of Peace.

Micah 5:2
2  But thou, Beth-lehemEphratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be rulerin Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

2 Ne. 25:19
19  For according to the words of the prophets, the Messiahcometh in six hundred years from the time that my father left Jerusalem; and according to the words of the prophets, and also the word of the angel of God, his name shall be Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

My Hand Shall Be Over Thee

Preparation for the second coming.

The Lord expects us to be as faithful, as devoted, as courageous as those who went before us. They were called to give their lives for the gospel. We are called to live our lives for the same purpose. In these last days we have special reason to do so.
Before that sacred night in Bethlehem, the events of history and the words of the prophets of all dispensations prepared the way for the first coming of the Lord and His Atonement. Similarly, history and prophecy laid the groundwork for the Restoration of the gospel through the Prophet Joseph Smith. Do we have eyes to see that the events and prophecies of our time are preparing us for the Savior’s Second Coming?
I bear special witness that our Savior Jesus Christ lives. I testify that His hand has been over the work of the Restoration from before the foundation of this world and will continue until His Second Coming.
That each of us will prepare ourselves to greet Him is my humble prayer. In His holy name, even Jesus Christ, amen.

Be Not Faithless
Doubt not, but believe that it was he who was born to earth in a manger when there was no room in the inn. Well did an angel ask a prophet who had foreseen these things in vision: “Knowest thou the condescension of God?” (1 Ne. 11:16.) I suppose none of us can fully understand that—how the great Jehovah should come among men, his birth in a manger, among a hated people, in a vassal state. But at his birth
there was an angelic chorus that sang of his glory. There were shepherds who worshiped him. There was a new star in the east. There were wise men who traveled far to bring tribute of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. One can surmise they touched those tiny hands in wonder and awe as they presented their gifts to the newborn king.
Herod the Great, who knew of the prophecies, feared those hands and sought to destroy them, and in the horrible slaughter of the innocents brought blood upon his own hands and head.
Believe that John the Baptist spoke by the power of revelation when he declared of Jesus, “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” (John 1:29.)And that it was the voice of the Almighty that declared above the waters of Jordan,“This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” (Matt. 3:17.)
Apply
Now we look forward to the second coming of Jesus Christ. Prophecies tell us that it will be soon. We do not know the exact time but that is the plan. We can see the signs though and it will be a glorious time when He comes.
Learn all that we can. Do all the good we can. Have faith and trust in His power and His love. He knows us and every detail of our lives. Attend the temple often where possible so we can serve and feel His spirit and guidance.
